Mission
Statement:
The Global
Ischemia Foundation supports research and improved patient outcomes
(therapeutic, behavioral, and other enhancements) in the underrepresented
area of central nervous system ischemic accidents beyond "localized"
strokes.
- The
Foundation
supports research toward new approaches for protecting and replacing
at-risk populations of brain cells and neural circuits.
- Encourages
research into novel therapeutic interventions that can limit the amount
of damage to forebrain cortical tissue following an Global Ischemic
Event.
- Develops
novel neural stimulating methods for driving circuitry to stay active
and functional during and immediately following the event.
- Supports
novel cell and molecular therapeutic approaches, including stem and
progenitor cell technologies that mobilize indigenous and donor populations
of neural precursor cells.
- Provides
support, both humanistic and technological (e.g. assistive devices)
to families. This will help improve patient outcomes (by therapeutic,
behavioral, and other enhancements) in this underrepresented area
of central nervous system ischemic accidents that go beyond "localized"
strokes.
